I, Cedar Bough, was given a camera by my grandfather when I was in the first grade. From those days with a point and shoot camera until today I have continued to be fascinated by photography. I made the decision to pursue photography as a career in December, 2000.

As I wrote on a bio for a photo exhibition once: "Though documenting the world around us to later share with a friend can be interesting, it was not documentation that drew me to photography, but rather the opportunity that photography creates to establish personal connections with multitudes of different people. The world of sitting in a blind all day waiting to get the perfect osprey shot is not for me. I want to get closer to people. I want to know more about them, their world, and maybe share with them something about mine. Through my photos, and accompanied voice or writing, I want to use those photos to teach other people about the people or places I've come to know.

I rarely take photos of people I haven't conversed with pre or post click. If a situation seems ongoing, I prefer to politely ask permission before shooting. If it's a now-or-never shot, I apologize afterwards. Almost everyone will give permission for me to take their photo. I frequently send photos with a thank you to my "models" after I've returned home. This has in some cases brought me new friends through correspondence, especially in today's world of email. Through my nearly ten years in Asia I have attained fluency in Korean and have varying ability in Mandarin Chinese, Thai and Tibetan. I can imagine no better life than one where I can continue to travel meeting new people from different cultures and learning about their way of life."

My past clients include Andong International Mask Dance Festival (2001, 2002), Daegu Traditional Medicine Festival (2002), martial arts event photography for the Korean Gojeon Kumdo Association, Daegu Daehan Hapkido Assocation, and Daegu Senghwal Hapkido Association. Twice I've been contracted by Yonsei Graduate School of International Studies to provide shots for the school viewbook, website and other miscellaneous uses. I have also shot advertising illustration for a variety of businesses in and associated with Korea, model portfolios, weddings, a calendar, postcards, a half-dozen textbook illustrations and several magazines including a cover for "Open Skies". Some examples of published work can be seen in the tear sheet gallery.

Many of my images are being sold through Oz Images, an online stock photo agency, for a variety of clients ranging from illustration in a religions textbook to a display in a museum. If you would like to use an image, Oz Images has an excellent search engine and I have uploaded a large number of shots to that site. A complete list of my available image subjects is contained in the stock photo lists (see link above).

In addition to photography, I should receive an M.A. in Korean Studies in August 2006. For the past two years I have focused on my studies, something that grew out of a desire to be able to more fully explain the subjects of my photos. Appropriately my thesis is on the Korean folk performing arts, specifically the mask dances dramas I love so much. This summer my husband, Karsangjamtso (Karjam) Saeji and I will walk from his hometown to Lhasa, you can read more about it by clicking "Trek" in the menu above. This is a photo taken by my father, Gregg Blomberg of Island Light Photography and Kestrel Tool, after our wedding.
